Speyeria cybele

Common name: Great Spangled Fritillary

Appearance:

  • Upperside is tawny orange with black scaled pattern
  • Female is darker
  • Underside is pale brown with a large white submarginal band and large silver spots
  • 2-4 inch wingspan

Found: In open, moist areas, fields near creeks, valleys, right of ways, and meadows

Major foodplant: Violets

Adults are active in: June - September
